Get to Know The Concept of Lean Warehousing

The basic concept of Lean theory is basically a method for eliminating waste to create added value for a product, so as to get customer value. Waste in a business consists of excess production, waiting time, transportation, inventory, movement, processes (use of inappropriate technology), and defective products.

The Lean concept focuses on saving resources in various activities, called Lean Warehousing means the use of the basic concepts of lean theory which focuses on warehouse activities.

In applying the concept of lean warehousing, there are 5 basic principles that are applied. The application of this principle is useful for increasing the optimality of warehouse operations, consisting of:

1. Seiri / Sort

Sorting goods based on the specified category, to then be stored according to the place. This is useful in the effectiveness of the search for goods. The purpose of this sorting is to shorten the search time for goods.

2. Seiton / Set in Oder

Is an activity of storing goods regularly, according to the sequence. This arrangement of goods relates to warehouse layout and accessibility to an item. Items can be stored with a name or location, making it easier to find items.

3. Seiso / Shine

As the name suggests, shine means a process related to tidying up, cleaning and tidying up warehouses. A dirty warehouse will affect the quality of goods faster or cause operational accidents.

4. Seketsu / Standardize

Standardization means that all activities carried out in the warehouse must have and run according to operational standards. This is to maintain the quality of the warehouse itself.

5. Shitsuke / Sustain

After everything is done, sustain means that every activity carried out must be maintained its productivity, by maintaining or increasing operational standards.
